BMKG: Weather modification in Greater Jakarta cannot be done every day

Jakarta – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that the application of weather modification technology (TMC) to trigger rain in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Greater Jakarta) areas cannot be done every day. This is because this condition is caused by whether or not the potential for rain cloud growth is visible in the capital’s sky.

Due to the application of TMC, parts of Greater Jakarta were showered with rain on Sunday, 27 August, from afternoon to evening. According to BMKG, the application of TMC is carried out to accelerate the growth of rain clouds to overcome air pollution problems.

BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati said that based on the results of her monitoring, light to medium-intensity rain began to fall since 15.09 WIB in parts of Bogor Regency, Bogor City, and Depok.

The intensity of rain in the region then increased, followed by rain in several other areas in Jabodetabek along with cloud growth.

BMKG Climatology Deputy Head Guswanto added that the application of TMC to reduce rain in the DKI Jakarta area was difficult to carry out the following day, Monday, 28 August, because there was no visible potential for rain cloud growth in the capital’s sky. (Hartatik)
