Jakarta – PT PLN (Persero) recorded revenue of IDR 26.6 billion from the sale of 749,151 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy certificates (RECs) from January to March 2023. Deputy to PLN’s Corporate Communications Division, Gregorius Adi Trianto, said that PLN had distributed NRE certificates to 311 customers.
The REC is proof that a company or individual has used electricity from renewable energy plants. “There are ten companies with the largest contribution in purchasing RECs,” said Trianto.
The ten companies include Nike Indonesia as a shoe manufacturer to PT Cheil Jedang Indonesia and PT Asahimas Chemical, which are both engaged in the chemical industry. In addition, there are automotive companies Astra Otoparts Group, cigarette industry PT Hanjaya Mandala Sampoerna and PT Amerta Indah Otsuka which are engaged in the food and beverage industry. Then PT Air Liquide Indonesia in the gas industry, PT Tjiwi Kimia in the paper industry, PT Agincourt Resources in the mining industry and PT South Pacific Viscose in the textile industry.
“We work with TIGRs APX as an international body that conducts verification by an international tracking system in California, United States, in issuing RECs,” said Trianto.
The green energy plants owned by PLN registered in APX are Kamojang Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) with a capacity of 140 MW, Lahendong PLTP 80 MW and Ulubelu PLTP 110 MW and Bakaru Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) 130 MW. Not only from NRE plants owned by PLN, the source of electricity supply for REC services can also come from NRE power plants owned by private power developers or independent power producers (IPPs) who sell their electricity to PLN.
