Jakarta – The number of stars listed on the packaging label of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps, will indicate how efficient the lamps are. The government has enacted these indicators as Minimum Energy Performance Standards (SKEM) and labels for energy saving (LED) lamps, officials said.
“When people buy a lamp, they will no longer have to think about how much power they have to buy, because … buying a lamp is supposed to be how bright the lighting is, not the power (they use),” said Supriyadi, Coordinator for Application of Energy Conservation Technology at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) during the socialisation of the implementation of energy-saving LED light labels in Surabaya in an official statement, early March.
LED lamps are energy efficient by looking at the number of stars listed on the packaging label between one and five stars. “The more stars, the more efficient it is, and this is what we are socialising,” he added.
The policy will be implemented starting July 2023. The regulations have been issued since June 2022, and it takes one year to prepare for inspection and ensure product quality standards by the LS Pro (Product Certification Agency) and socialisation. (Hartatik)
