Jakarta – PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) and PT PLN (Persero) are strengthening their collaboration in energy transition efforts towards a green industry, in line with each company’s sustainability roadmap to realise Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals and support the government in achieving its net zero emission target by 2050.
SIG Operations Director, Reni Wulandari, emphasised that the synergy between SIG and PLN is more than just a relationship between consumers and service providers, but also a sustainability partnership.
“SIG and PLN share the same vision to encourage the creation of a green industry through the use of renewable energy-based electricity. This initiative is expected to reduce environmental risks from industrial models that depend on natural resources and accelerate the reduction of carbon emissions,” Reni said in a written statement when receiving an award as a large-scale energy user in the industrial sector at the Enterprise Customer Gathering event organised by PLN, Monday, July 15.
Reni explained that SIG is a large-scale electricity user with an electricity usage rate of around 2.9 terawatt hours (TWh) per year. On the other hand, SIG has potential land that can be used for the implementation of solar panels up to 572 MegaWatt peak (MWp).
“Cooperation with PLN in developing solar panels is expected to increase the portion of renewable energy use and support the achievement of the target of reducing CO2 emission intensity by 23.9 per cent from the 2019 baseline as stated in SIG’s Sustainability Roadmap 2030,” he added.
PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, revealed that the Enterprise Customer Gathering event is a form of PLN’s appreciation for the cooperation with industrial customers that has been established so far.
“The contribution of customers is very large in maintaining stability and encouraging the country’s economic growth. We hope that the closeness between PLN and enterprise customers can be further enhanced to encourage sustainable economic growth,” he said.
Darmawan also explained that PLN does not only focus on providing electricity but also developing business beyond kWh.
“We develop internet, fibre optic, and green services to support low-carbon industries. This step is part of our efforts to support low-carbon energy,” he explained.
With this synergy, SIG and PLN hope to make a real contribution in supporting Indonesia’s energy transition, increasing the use of renewable energy, and significantly reducing carbon emissions. (Hartatik)
