Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) laid the first stone or groundbreaking of a pioneering new renewable energy power plant in the Nusantara State Capital (IKN) on Thursday, 2 November. PT PLN (Persero) stated that it is ready to fulfil the green electricity needs in IKN Nusantara by building a 50-megawatt (MW) Solar Power Plant (PLTS).
The President said the construction of this solar power plant shows the seriousness of the Government through PLN in preparing a reliable electricity system based on environmentally friendly energy to fulfil the electricity needs at IKN Nusantara. This aligns with the development of IKN as a green and environmentally friendly forest city. “This is a pioneer of PLTS in IKN. The capacity can still be increased if needed,” said Jokowi.
The President explained that this PLTS will reduce emissions by up to 104,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. This PLTS can produce green energy of around 93 Giga Watt Hour (GWh) per year, so it has answered how the adequacy of electricity needs at IKN is met.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo confirmed PLN’s commitment to preparing a reliable electricity system based on environmentally friendly supplies for IKN Nusantara. The construction of this PLTS is PLN’s effort to support IKN Nusantara to become a green, futuristic and sustainable city so that the electricity provided is based on environmentally friendly supplies.
Prasodjo explained that the solar power plant was built through PLN Nusantara Power (NP) sub-holding in collaboration with Singapore-based energy company Sembcorp Utilities Pte. Ltd. The solar power plant in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara, is targeted to be completed and operational by May 2024. (Hartatik)
