PGN targets completion of Central Java natural gas distribution pipeline project in September 2023

Jakarta – PT Pertamina Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) targets the construction of the Semarang-Kendal natural gas pipeline infrastructure to be completed by the third quarter or around September 2023. PGN Director of Infrastructure and Technology, Achmad Muchtasyar said, the progress of the natural gas distribution pipeline project, which began construction in early December 2022, included pipe mobilisation, pipe alignment work, welding, as well as permits for placement on toll road crossings.

“PGN is committed to completing the work according to the target, that is by the third quarter of 2023, so that it can be immediately optimised for the distribution of natural gas in the Kendal area and its surroundings,” said Muchtasyar in an official statement.

He said, the months of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr will not hinder project implementation. “We are committed to completing the work on target before the Semarang – Batang transmission pipeline is completed,” said Muchtasyar.

Gradually, a distribution pipeline integrated with Kendal Industrial Area (KIK) will be built so that it can serve other industrial areas as well as serve commercial, transportation and households in the vicinity.

“So far, PGN has served the needs of natural gas in Semarang and its surroundings. But most of them still use CNG. It is hoped that the utilisation of the Semarang – Kendal and Batang distribution pipelines will increase the energy security of natural gas. That way, a larger volume of gas can be distributed and more varied gas user sectors,” he said. (Hartatik)
