Jakarta – Pertamina Power & New Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) Subholding operated through PT Pertamina Power Indonesia agreed to sign a cooperation agreement with HyET Solar BV Netherlands (HyET Solar) to develop thin film Solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing. The signing was carried out virtually by Dannif Danusaputro as Pertamina NRE CEO and HyET Solar CEO Rombout Swanborn.
The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by the Indonesian Embassy to the Netherlands, which was attended directly by the Indonesian Ambassador to the Netherlands Mayerfas. In his remarks, Mayerfas assessed that this MoU was carried out at the right moment because it is in line with Indonesia’s 2045 Vision and the G20 Presidency to achieve energy sovereignty and a sustainable energy transition in Indonesia.
“I believe that the cooperation of the two parties will contribute to national and global efforts in realising greener energy,” said Mayerfas.
“It is an honour for us to be able to contribute to the technology development (to support) the energy transition in Indonesia. This is an innovative PV product, where 95% of the raw materials are sourced in Indonesia, so it can reduce the use of imported components,” said Swanborn in a written release, Tuesday (12/4).
In this collaborative project, HyET Solar uses a PV foil technology called Solar Powerfoil, which is a 0.5-mm thin film made of amorphous and microcrystalline silicon solar cell layers, that can be rolled up. The advantage of PV foil technology is its efficiency in terms of installation because it can be applied on a variety of surfaces.
As an initial phase of this collaboration, HyET Solar will run a pilot project to develop a small-scale Solar Powerfoil. If the pilot project meets investment parameters, both parties will proceed with a feasibility study. Meanwhile, Pertamina NRE is aggressively carrying out solar power generation projects, which currently operate internally within Pertamina, potentially reaching 500 MW, including solar power generators at Pertamina’s gas stations across the archipelago.
To accelerate the energy transition, Pertamina NRE collaborates with various strategic partners, both technical and investment collaborations. Pertamina NRE plays a strategic role in efforts to reduce carbon emissions and supports the government to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. Chief Executive Officer of Pertamina NRE, Dannif Danusaputro said, Pertamina has expressed its full commitment to implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects so that business can realise good and sustainable for the environment.
“Pertamina NRE is a leading entity in overseeing Pertamina’s energy transition. We are all headed for net-zero emission. Pertamina is gradually transforming from a company with a majority of its business in fossil energy into a company with low carbon emissions. This strategic partnership is one of Pertamina NRE’s initiatives to develop the PV manufacturing business. The development of PV foil technology in Indonesia will be a good potential for increasing domestic component levels,” said Danusaputro. (Hartatik)
