Jakarta—Gas distribution volume from Lampung’s Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) showed a significant surge after receiving the latest LNG cargo from Bontang LNG Terminal on 13-14 April 2025, according to a spokesperson for PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) on Tuesday, 15 April. The floating unit, managed by PT PGN LNG Indonesia (PLI), a subsidiary of PGN, is now a mainstay of natural gas distribution to western Indonesia.
“FSRU Lampung is a strategic solution that responds to clean energy needs flexibly and quickly. Average gas distribution has reached 175.37 BBTUD since the beginning of the year, increasing as the industrial and retail customer base grows,” said PGN Corporate Secretary, Fajriyah Usman.
The gas received from Bontang is immediately channelled through the South Sumatra – West Java (SSWJ) transmission pipeline, which is the main distribution route to customers in Java. According to Fajriyah, the utilisation of FSRU Lampung has continued to increase since the unit was commercially operated in May 2024.
“We are building an integrated gas infrastructure system – pipeline and non-pipeline – to ensure the reliability of gas supply to all lines of consumers. FSRU Lampung is one of the tangible proofs of PGN’s readiness to face global LNG supply fluctuations,” he added.
The LNG cargo received from Bontang adds strategic stock to support national energy security. FSRU Lampung has a storage capacity of around 170,000 cubic metres of LNG and can regasify up to 400 MMSCFD of gas per day.
Furthermore, Fajriyah asserted that strengthening the LNG business portfolio is part of PGN’s long-term strategy to support the national decarbonisation target.
“The utilisation of LNG not only provides more environmentally friendly energy, but also increases industrial competitiveness. We continue to expand our distribution reach, including to areas not yet connected to pipelines,” he said.
In addition, PGN strives for operational efficiency and flexibility through collaboration with various stakeholders. This ensures smooth operations and optimises existing infrastructure.
“This step is part of PGN’s commitment to maintain the sustainability of the national gas supply, while encouraging a fair and affordable energy transition,” concluded Fajriyah. (Hartatik)
