Jambaran-Tiung Biru supplies gas for generators in East Java and Central Java

Jakarta – The Jambaran-Tiung Biru (JTB) gas field project in Surabaya officially supplies gas for power plants and industry in the East Java and Central Java regions. The JTB project was developed by PT Pertamina EP Cepu (PEPC) which is part of the Eastern Indonesia Region, a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), Subholding Upstream Pertamina.

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin attended the inauguration in Surabaya, last week. In his remarks, Amin said that the use of natural gas as the cleanest fossil energy is increasing. Therefore, the government continues to encourage the use of clean technology by stimulating the domestic industry, such as the development of the JTB unitization field.

“In the future (JTB) will supply a large enough gas demand in Java. It is hoped that meeting the demand for gas will stimulate the business world, improve the people’s economy at the regional as well as national levels,” said Amin.

The two projects in eastern Java have been able to increase national gas supply with an additional supply of up to 312 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), 192 MMscfd from JTB and 120 MMscfd from the MDA – MBH field.

Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati said, JTB would supply 192 MMSCFD of gas for the needs of power plants and industry in East Java and Central Java as well as meeting household needs in Lamongan through the gas network program (jargas). She said, the use of JTB gas as clean energy is in line with the energy independence policy for each region which will contribute positively to national energy independence.

“Pertamina will replicate this in other regions in Indonesia. We start with energy independence per region based on the existing energy resources in the region,” said Nicke. (Hartatik)
