Jakarta – The G20 presidency which will be held at the end of 2022 is the right momentum to support Indonesia’s initiatives to regulate energy, food and biodiversity governance, officials said Wednesday (4/5).

These three areas have been the most difficult topics to collaborate on, because governance has never existed, said Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Laksana Tri Handoko in a written release after the Research and Innovation Initiative Gathering (RIIG), a meeting of research and innovation ministers from various countries, a series of opportunities for the G20 Presidency.

He said that the research community began to recognise the importance of collaboration since the pandemic began. Collaboration is needed in research to produce new drugs, since Indonesia has many species on land and sea while very few benefits of them have been tapped.

Handoko explained, there are two focuses that are emphasised in RIIG. Firstly, how Indonesia can strengthen collaboration sharing facilities and secondly, how to regulate the governance of multi-country research collaborations. (Hartatik)
