BREN collaborates with SLB to develop geothermal technology

Jakarta – Star Energy Geothermal, a PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (BREN) subsidiary, announced a collaboration with US-based technology company SLB to develop geothermal assets.

SLB Vice President of Renewables and Energy Efficiency Irlan Amir said in a stock exchange filing on Thursday, January 23, that the collaboration will combine Star Energy Geothermal’s expertise in geothermal development with SLB’s decades of experience in developing and industrialising technology solutions for the energy sector.

“Working closely together, SLB and Star Energy Geothermal aim to apply technologies that can transform the economics of conventional geothermal projects and increase the recovery rate of geothermal assets,” Irlan said.

Barito Renewables Energy President Director and Star Energy Geothermal Group CEO Hendra Soetjipto Tan revealed that this collaboration will combine Star Energy Geothermal’s skills in geothermal development with SLB’s decades of experience in developing and industrialising technology solutions for the energy sector.

BREN manages 886 Megawatts (MW) of geothermal installed power capacity. “In line with our strategic expansion to support the energy transition, our goal will be met by utilising advanced technology to improve the efficiency and economics of our assets,” Hendra said in a stock exchange filing on Thursday.
