Arkora Hydro (ARKO) accelerates the construction of two power plant projects

Jakarta – Renewable energy company PT Arkora Hydro Tbk (ARKO) is targeting to accelerate the construction of two hydropower plant projects, namely the Kukusan Project, Lampung, with a capacity of 5.4 megawatts, and the Tomoni Project, South Sulawesi, with a capacity of 10 megawatts.

Arkora Hydro President Director Aldo Artoko said that the construction progress of the two projects had reached 49.9% and 12.2%, respectively, as of November 2024.

The Kukusan Project and Tomoni Project are targeted for completion in the second semester of 2025 and 2026, respectively. “We continue to accelerate the construction of ongoing power plant projects,” Aldo said in an official statement Thursday, December 19.

Currently, ARKO has a total contracted capacity of 42.8 megawatts from three projects that have been operating, namely the Cikopo Project, West Java, with a capacity of 7.4 megawatts. The Tomasa Project, Central Sulawes,i with a capacity of 10 megawatts, and the Yaentu Project, Central Sulawesi, with 10 megawatts.

The total capacity is also contributed by two projects currently under construction, namely the Kukusan Project, Lampung and the Tomoni Project, South Sulawesi.

The five power plant projects utilise run-of-river with an estimated electricity production target this year for the three operating projects of 118.2 GWh and is targeted to grow by 49.5 per cent year on year to 176.7 GWh in 2025 after the Kukusan Project construction is completed next year.

Aldo said the company is optimistic about developing Indonesia’s new renewable energy (NRE) sector and is committed to supporting government targets such as the energy mix target, net-zero emissions, and energy self-sufficiency.

“For this reason, we are continuing the construction process of the two projects so that they can immediately contribute to Indonesia’s energy mix from NRE and accelerate Indonesia’s goal of energy self-sufficiency,” Aldo said. (hs)
