Jakarta – PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) has realised interconnection of the electricity grid that connects mainland Sumatra and Bangka Island, Antara News Agency reported Wednesday (23/2). The Sumatra-Bangka electricity grid is connected via an underwater power cable.
“The completion of a series of interconnection systems in Bangka marks the readiness of infrastructure before electrical power from the Sumatran electricity system is included in the Bangka electricity system,” said PT PLN (Persero) Mega projects and new and renewable energy (NRE) Director Wiluyo Kusdwiharto as quoted by Antara.
He also said that with the interconnection, Bangka Island electricity system is now integrated into the Sumatra electricity grid and “stops the use of fossil fuel-powered generators in Bangka, and reduce electricity production costs.” (Ant/nsh)
