Jakarta – PT Lautan Luas Tbk (IDX:LTLS), through its subsidiary PT Dunia Kimia Jaya (DKJ), operates a rooftop solar panel system at its factory and office facilities in Gresik, East Java, the company announced on Monday, October 1. The installation of 510 solar panels with a capacity of 303.45 kWp is expected to reduce carbon emissions by up to 371 tons of CO₂ annually.
Managing Director of PT Lautan Luas Tbk, Joshua Chandraputra Asali, said the initiative was part of the company’s concrete steps towards sustainability.
“The use of solar energy is not just an environmentally friendly project. It is also about energy efficiency and reducing dependence on fossil-based electricity. Lautan Luas is committed to continuing to deliver green innovations for the future,” he said.
Equivalent to 9,512 trees
Based on a study by PT Emerging Solar Indonesia (ESI), a cooperation partner, the solar power plant installed at DKJ has a capacity equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of 9,512 trees per year. ESI Engineering Manager Asmaul Husna said that this project was designed with special adjustments to the conditions of industrial buildings.
“We even designed our own mounting system to withstand wind conditions at the site. The goal is to maintain world-class technical standards, but tailored to the factory’s needs,” he said.
For PT Dunia Kimia Jaya, the installation of these solar panels marks a significant milestone in the company’s decarbonization efforts. Lie Khie Chou, Director of DKJ, emphasised that the project’s benefits extend beyond the environmental aspect.
“This investment provides energy savings, ensures a more stable electricity supply, and increases DKJ’s competitiveness in the global market,” he said.
Langkah Lautan Luas and DKJ are aligned with the 2025–2034 RUPTL (electricity supply business plan), which aims for a 34.3 per cent share of new and renewable energy (NRE) by 2034. This project also strengthens the industrial sector’s contribution to Indonesia’s net-zero emissions target by 2060.
Joshua stated that without the participation of the business world, achieving green energy targets would be challenging.
“The energy transition cannot be supported by the government alone. Industry must be the driving force. With the installation of this solar power plant, we are demonstrating our genuine commitment that change can be made,” he concluded. (Hartatik)
