World Cities Summit opens in Singapore, bringing urban leaders together for sustainable growth

Singapore – The 10th edition of the World Cities Summit (WCS) opened in Singapore on Monday, June 15, bringing together government leaders, mayors, urban planners and industry experts from around the world to discuss solutions to build more liveable, resilient and sustainable cities. Held from 14–16 June, the summit is themed “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: ACT Now!”, calling on cities to accelerate innovation, collaborate across sectors and transform urban development for future generations.

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong delivered a special address at the opening plenary. At the same time, Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat hosted discussions with mayors and city leaders from more than 100 cities. Key topics on the agenda include climate resilience, affordable housing, artificial intelligence, urban regeneration and sustainable mobility.

Among the international attendees was Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo, who participated in the opening session. During the summit, Jakarta and Singapore’s Centre for Liveable Cities are expected to formalise a two-year cooperation arrangement covering integrated urban planning, transport and infrastructure development, smart city initiatives, climate adaptation and resilient communities.

First launched in 2008, the biennial World Cities Summit has grown into one of the world’s leading platforms for urban governance and sustainable city development, attracting participants from more than 250 cities globally. The event promotes knowledge sharing, partnerships and practical solutions to urban challenges.

The summit is being held at Singapore’s Suntec Convention and Exhibition Centre, alongside the Asia Infrastructure Forum (AIF) 2026. The co-location highlights the close relationship between urban development and infrastructure investment, with both events focusing on financing, planning and delivering sustainable infrastructure needed to support Asia’s rapidly growing cities.

The Asia Infrastructure Forum, which opens on 16 June, brings together investors, policymakers and project developers to address the region’s infrastructure financing needs and accelerate the delivery of sustainable infrastructure projects across Asia. (nsh)
