Jakarta – PT Pertamina Patra Niaga facilitated the national airline, Garuda Indonesia, in purchasing Emission Reduction Certificates (ECDs) to implement Carbon Neutral Flights for Garuda Indonesia’s 75th-anniversary celebration on January 23, 2024. This activity of Pertamina’s subsidiary is part of a joint effort to provide decarbonisation solutions for its business partners.
SPE is part of an emission reduction management mechanism documented in the form of evidence of emission reduction by businesses and/or activities that have gone through Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (PPV), and recorded in the National Registration System for Climate Change Control in the form of registration numbers and/or codes.
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, President Director Riva Siahaan, said that this collaboration reflects the joint efforts of both parties in supporting Indonesia’s national goal of achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060.
“One of our efforts is to support our partners’ decarbonisation measures by changing the carbon emissions generated during flight operations. For example, Garuda Indonesia has purchased 50 tCO2-eq of carbon credits,” Riva said in a written statement.
“Pertamina Patra Niaga not only sells fuel to our partners, in this case, aviation consumers but also introduces the B2B Pertamina One Solution concept. We offer solutions for the emission decarbonisation needs of consumer businesses, in line with our goal of becoming a decarbonisation travel partner to support the realisation of Net Zero Emission Indonesia in 2060,” he explained.
Garuda Indonesia conducted a “joy flight” using a B737-800 fleet with flight number GA006. The aircraft flew through Soekarno Hatta International Airport, over the Pelabuhan Ratu area, and then back to Soekarno Hatta Airport.
This flight is a form of appreciation from Garuda Indonesia to certain outsourced employees, including security guards, cleaning service staff, and office boys who have supported the company’s business activities.
Garuda Indonesia President Director Irfan Setiaputra stated that as part of its efforts to support decarbonisation, Garuda Indonesia has implemented various sustainable initiatives. One is with Pertamina to carry out the first commercial flight using bioavtur fuel.
“Garuda Indonesia’s active involvement in reducing carbon emissions is part of the strategic plan roadmap to continue accelerating as an increasingly agile and adaptive airline in the new era. Garuda Indonesia is transforming to maximize performance, contributing to the mission of environmental conservation,” Irfan explained. (Hartatik)
