Jakarta – The government has approved a revision of the plan of development (PoD) for gas production at the Lapangan Asap Merah Kido, Kasuri Block in West Papua, of around 300 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd).
The PoD revision was carried out due to changes in the development plan, as well as the addition of potential gas reserves in the three fields that are part of the Kasuri Block in West Papua. Meanwhile, the fertilizer development plan is carried out based on Papua’s strategic position which still has extensive land to be developed in the agricultural sector.
The revised PoD was handed over to the operator of the Kasuri Block to the Cooperation Contract Contractor (KKKS) Genting Oil Kasuri Pte Ltd, a Genting Group entity from Malaysia. The handover was made on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Jambaran Tiung Biru (JBT) national strategic project (JBT) and the MDA and MBH Gas Field Projects in East Java, recently.
Gas from the Kasuri Block will later be sold in the form of LNG, apart from being channeled to the needs of the fertilizer industry. The Head of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), Dwi Soetjipto recently explained, as much as 100 MMscfd will be channeled to meet the needs of the fertilizer factory to be built, while the rest will be used as LNG.
The capacity of the LNG processing and production facility will reach 1.2 million tons per year. Genting Oil, he continued, would carry out further studies regarding the gas processing facilities to be built.
Genting Oil Kasuri Pte Ltd, the operator of the Kasuri block, finally received approval for the revision of the Kasuri block development plan or POD I after successfully adding reserves in the AMK field. ‘Gas in place’ or the estimated total amount of natural gas contained in a geological formation and is technically and economically recoverable from 1,735 BSCFD to 2,673.7 BSCF, and changes in reserves from 1,031.33 BSCF to 2,244.45 BSCF.
