Jakarta — Heavy rains, strong winds, and flash floods have affected several regions across Indonesia as the country enters the transitional season, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported on Monday, April 28.

In West Java, severe weather struck Cianjur Regency on Saturday evening, April 26, causing floods across four districts and affecting 14 villages and one urban ward. At least 191 residents were impacted, with 10 houses damaged, two houses heavily damaged, one levee breached, and one electricity pole toppled. Emergency teams evacuated stranded residents and carried out rapid damage assessments, while cleanup and infrastructure repairs are ongoing.

In Lampung Province, extreme weather hit Tulang Bawang Barat Regency on the same day, damaging 71 houses in Tiyuh Margomulyo Village. Authorities and residents have mobilised to clear debris and assist affected families.

Floods also inundated parts of Pati Regency, Central Java, early Sunday morning, April 27, after heavy rains caused levee breaches. Around 60 houses across three villages were flooded. While water levels have receded in some areas, minor flooding remains in others.

Meanwhile, in Aceh Province, a landslide blocked access roads in Bener Meriah Regency’s Pintu Rime Gayo District on Sunday evening. While there were no casualties or displaced residents, access to local farms remains cut off. Efforts to clear the landslide are underway, but are hampered by limited access to heavy equipment.

BNPB has urged communities across Indonesia to remain alert for potential disasters such as floods, landslides, and strong winds during the ongoing seasonal transition. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates, strengthen home structures, prepare emergency kits, and follow local government instructions during adverse weather events. (nsh)
