PLN NP secures funding for Tembesi Floating Solar Power Plant

Jakarta – The Tembesi Floating Solar Power Plant project, which has become one of the icons of Indonesia’s renewable energy transition, is now entering a new phase with funding certainty, according to PLN NP in a press statement Friday, December 20.

PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP), through a strategic collaboration with PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) (SMI), ensured the 46 MWp project received the necessary financial support to accelerate its implementation.

The project is built on the waters of the Tembesi Reservoir, Batam City, and is predicted to be the largest floating solar power plant in the Riau Islands. PLN NP collaborates with its subsidiary, PLN Nusantara Renewables (PLN NR), and PT TBS Energi Utama Tbk (TBS) through PT NTBE to accelerate the energy transition.

PLN NP President Director Ruly Firmansyah emphasised that funding from PT SMI is a major step in the history of green energy development in Indonesia. According to him, this project is a symbol of innovation and a model of collaboration between state-owned enterprises and the national private sector.

“The Tembesi Floating Solar Power Plant project proves that cross-sector cooperation can realise our energy transition goals. We hope this project inspires other green energy initiatives across Indonesia,” said Ruly.

The future of clean energy

The signing of the project funding agreement was witnessed by several key figures, including Acting Director of Business Development and Commerce of PLN NP Dwi Hartono, President Director of PT SMI Reynaldi Hermansjah, President Director of PT NTBE Mahzuri, and Deputy President Director of TBS Energi Utama Pandu Sjahrir.

Reynaldi Hermansjah from PT SMI emphasised the importance of this project in responding to the challenges of the global climate crisis. He says financing renewable energy projects is a concrete step in reducing national carbon emissions.

“We believe the Tembesi Floating Solar Power Plant project will have a major impact on environmental sustainability and community welfare. Through this funding, PT SMI continues to support clean energy for current and future generations,” said Reynaldi. He also mentioned that to date, renewable energy projects financed by PT SMI have successfully avoided carbon emissions of 1.55 million tons per year.

President Director of PT Energi Baru TBS (EBT), Dimas Wibowo, expressed optimism that this project will strengthen the renewable energy mix in Batam and Indonesia.

“We greatly appreciate the support from PT SMI and the close collaboration with PLN Nusantara Power and PLN Batam. This project is a tangible manifestation of national synergy to provide affordable clean energy for the community,” he said.

Tembesi Floating Solar Power Plant is planned to start full commercial operations in the second to third quarter of 2025. In addition to meeting Batam’s clean energy needs, the project is also expected to attract foreign investment, create jobs, and strengthen the local economy.

With the achievement of this funding, the Tembesi solar power project is an important milestone in Indonesia’s journey towards the 23% renewable energy mix target by 2025. (Hartatik)
