PLN cooperates with Chinese investors to build renewable power plants

Jakarta – PLN Indonesia Power secures investment from China to build a new renewable energy (NRE) power plant in Morowali Industrial Estate, Central Sulawesi. The cooperation was carried out by PLN IP with China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) and Baoshuo Taman Industry Investment Group (BTIIG).

The signing of the MoU was carried out by the President Director of PLN Indonesia Power, Edwin Nugraha Putra with Vice President Director of CEEC, Ms. Yuan Yingli, and President Director of BTIIG, Cai Zhengyang witnessed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the People’s Republic of China, Djauhari Oratmangun and President Director of PT PLN (Persero), Darmawan Prasodjo and President Commissioner of PT PLN (Persero), Amien Sunaryadi along with the Board of Directors of PLN, CEEC, and BTIIG.

Darmawan Prasodjo said the cooperation was marked by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop Captive Power up to 5000 Mega Watts in Morowali Industrial Estate. The collaboration is to meet electricity needs in the Baoshuo industrial area by developing environmentally friendly plants.

“This partnership is in order to increase development that leads to increased national economic growth. We are committed to providing electricity supply according to Baoshuo’s needs with the development of hydropower and solar power plant phase 1, with an estimated capacity of 5,000 MW and the next stage of development in Sulawesi,” Darmawan said in his statement.

President Director of PLN Indonesia Power, Edwin Nugraha Putra said that CEEC is one of China’s largest energy solution business providers and is competent in developing green energy. In the future, PLN Indonesia Power will also provide green energy supplies in stages, by utilizing the potential of new renewable energy around locations such as hydropower, solar power plants, and wind power plants which are readily available in Sulawesi to supply electricity needs in the BTIIG Industrial Estate.
