PGE Lumut Balai achieves 482 million kWh of electricity production, higher than its 2024 target

Jakarta—PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) Lumut Balai Area has surpassed its 2024 electricity production target by producing 482,064,456.13 KWh, or 13.33% higher than the RKAP target. According to the company on Monday, 24 March, this achievement confirms the strategic role of geothermal power plants in supporting the availability of clean energy for Indonesia.

PGE General Manager of Lumut Balai Area, Catur Hendro Utomo S, said the success resulted from solid teamwork and optimal facility maintenance. “This success is not only about exceeding the target but also proving that our geothermal infrastructure can support national energy security and benefit the surrounding community,” he said.

Currently, PGE operates PLTP Unit 1 with a capacity of 55 MW, which has been operating since 2019. To strengthen its contribution to clean energy, the construction of PLTP Unit 2 with an additional 55 MW capacity is underway and is targeted to start operating in mid-2025.

In addition to increasing production capacity, PGE Lumut Balai Area also emphasises its environmental commitment. PLTP Unit 1 produces very low emissions of around 1,500 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per year, making it one of the most environmentally friendly energy solutions.

PGE does not only focus on production but also implements various social responsibility (CSR) programmes covering education, health, environment, economic empowerment, and infrastructure development. Throughout 2024, 13 CSR programmes have been implemented, providing direct benefits to 1,261 recipients while strengthening relationships with local communities.

“The synergy between the company and the community is the key to sustainable geothermal energy development. We are committed to continue supporting national energy security while providing benefits to the surrounding community,” added Catur.

With this encouraging achievement, PGE Lumut Balai Area is ready to continue its work as a pioneer in providing clean energy and supporting the national vision towards energy self-sufficiency. The government and stakeholders are expected to continue optimising the potential of geothermal energy to strengthen the transition to more environmentally friendly energy sources in the future.
