Jakarta—PT Pertamina Energy Terminal (PET) is collaborating with Malaysia’s Tanjung Langsat Port Terminal (TLPT) to develop an international green fuel terminal and bunker centre, according to a PET spokesperson on Friday, May 16. The cooperation was confirmed by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) Forum held at the end of April 2025.
“The signing of this cooperation is an important moment for PET. We are expanding our international network and emphasising our position as a key player in sustainable energy logistics,” said Bayu Prostiyono, Managing Director of PET.
The joint project includes the construction of a green energy-based fuel terminal and an integrated international bunker centre. Both will support a smooth cross-border energy supply chain in the JS-SEZ region, particularly between Johor and Singapore.
The development plan includes the main infrastructure and supporting facilities such as a water treatment plant and a bunker terminal for commercial vessels. This collaboration’s total target trade volume is 3 million tonnes per year.
“We see this region as a strategic node for energy trade. The facilities to be developed will support logistics efficiency and reduce carbon footprint,” Bayu added.
Drive efficiency and potential non-captive market revenue
This initiative is also considered a new business opportunity that can significantly contribute to Pertamina Group’s non-captive market revenue while strengthening services for captive markets in the ASEAN region.
“Through this collaboration, we can provide more competitive energy logistics solutions, while strengthening PET’s position in supporting clean energy transition at the regional level,” said Bayu.
PET and TLPT’s collaboration is part of the “PET Go Global” vision, which encourages companies to expand their presence in international markets through strategic cooperations. PET’s presence on the JS-SEZ stage is proof of the company’s seriousness in transforming into a world-class energy logistics entity.
PET also expressed its commitment to continue exploring regional and global partnership opportunities that support the development of a sustainable green energy ecosystem, while responding to market demands for more environmentally friendly energy solutions. (Hartatik)
