Pertamina Geothermal: Collaboration is key in increasing geothermal energy investment attractiveness

Jakarta—At the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) reaffirmed its commitment to becoming the main driving force in the development of geothermal energy in Indonesia.

PGE emphasized that collaboration with various parties is a key factor in accelerating the development of the geothermal energy sector and increasing its investment attractiveness.

In a panel discussion themed “Powering Indonesia: PGE’s Mission to Unlock Geothermal Potential” held on the first day of the forum, PGE President Director Julfi Hadi stated that PGE has a great capacity to develop geothermal energy as the backbone of the national energy transition. He also emphasized the importance of close cooperation between PGE, the government, and other developers in maximizing the existing geothermal potential.

“PGE has decades of experience managing Geothermal Working Areas (WKP) with an installed capacity of 672.5 MW. We are targeting an increase in capacity to 1 GW in the next two years,” Julfi Hadi said in a written statement on Thursday, September 5.

He also added that cross-sector collaboration is essential to create an ecosystem that supports investment and accelerates the development of this renewable energy. PGE has approximately 3 GW of geothermal reserves spread across 10 WKPs, including more than 1 GW, which has been proven.

Various stakeholders from the public and private sectors, both domestic and international, attended the ISF 2024 forum. Given Indonesia’s renewable energy potential of more than 440 GW, it is hoped that this forum will strengthen Indonesia’s position as a major player in global efforts to address climate change.

With a focus on sustainability, ISF 2024 is an important platform to share best practices and encourage cross-sector collaboration to accelerate the global energy transition. As the world pays increasing attention to environmental issues, Indonesia has the opportunity to play a key role in developing sustainable solutions that benefit not only the country but also the global community.
