Jakarta – PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Prabumulih Field recorded a 33 per cent jump in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production in early 2025. Senior Manager of Pertamina EP Prabumulih Field, Muhammad Luthfi Ferdiansyah, in a written statement Wednesday, January 29, revealed that this increase in production resulted from optimising well performance and operational innovations implemented in the working area.
Production that was previously 41 metric tons per day in December 2024 has now increased to 60 metric tons per day. “We managed to increase LPG production through optimisation at wells BRG-40 and BRG-41. This step included implementing an on-stream project to lower pressure and changes in gas operation patterns in the Karangan structure,” he said.
If this trend continues, LPG production from Prabumulih Field will reach 21,900 metric tons by 2025. “This achievement not only strengthens the national energy supply but also contributes to reducing Indonesia’s dependence on LPG imports,” Luthfi added.
Production optimisation strategy
Senior Manager Production Zone 4, Agung Wibowo, explained that this achievement was achieved amidst great challenges. “Most of the fields in Zone 4 are mature fields with declining production rates. However, with the right exploration and exploitation strategy, we managed to increase production,” he said.
One of the main strategies implemented is modifying gas distribution lines. This initiative is expected to continue increasing the volume of LPG production until the end of 2025. Bambang Dwi Djanuarto, head of the the Operations Department of SKK Migas Sumbagsel Region, stated that the surge in LPG production from Pertamina EP Prabumulih Field is a concrete step in realising national energy security.
He also emphasised that the increase in LPG production will directly impact reducing LPG imports. “With increased domestic production, we can be more independent and reduce dependence on energy imports,” he said.
Bambang also emphasised the importance of cross-sector cooperation in ensuring the sustainability of optimal LPG production. “This success does not only belong to Pertamina EP but also the result of synergy between various stakeholders in the oil and gas industry,” he said. (Hartatik)
