ISEW 2024: Indonesia-Germany collaborative projects in green energy transition

Jakarta – To accelerate the energy transition towards sustainability, Indonesia and Germany are strengthening their partnership through the Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW) 2024 forum. The event, supported by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) together with the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) and German international cooperation agency Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), will take place from September 10 to 13, 2024 in Jakarta.

ISEW 2024 is designed as an annual platform to gather stakeholders concentrating on sustainable energy development in Indonesia. The forum will serve as a platform to dialogue, exchange ideas, and formulate innovative strategies to drive Indonesia’s energy transition efforts. The event will include various sessions and activities, such as keynote speeches, panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions, and opportunities for business matchmaking.

Secretary of the Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Sahid Junaidi, who attended the launch of ISEW 2024, noted the importance of the energy transition for Indonesia’s sustainable future.

“Collaboration and innovative solutions are key to achieving our ambitious goals. With this approach, we can ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for all Indonesians,” Sahid said in a written statement on Thursday, August 29.

On that occasion, the Director of Electricity, Telecommunications, and Informatics at Bappenas Taufiq Hidayat Putra also emphasised the importance of national guidance, strategic planning, and inclusive and international cooperation in achieving sustainable energy goals.

“Close cooperation between various parties will realise our vision for a greener and more sustainable Indonesia,” he said.

In addition, GIZ Indonesia/ASEAN Energy Program Director Lisa Tinschert expressed Germany’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s energy transition.

“Indonesia is our key partner in the fight against climate change. We are committed to supporting Indonesia’s energy transition ambitions through collaborative projects and knowledge sharing. This collaboration is essential to achieve a sustainable future for both countries and the world,” Lisa explained.

ISEW 2024 will present various crucial topics related to sustainable energy, such as renewable energy integration, energy efficiency, sustainable financing, and equitable energy transition. With various discussions and interactive sessions, this forum is expected to be a catalyst to accelerate Indonesia’s move towards net-zero emissions and strengthen bilateral relations with Germany in the green energy sector.
