Jakarta – The growth of renewable energy in the country, particularly renewable energy resources that are not consistently available (intermittent), such as wind and solar power, has prompted the development of supporting industry, including the country’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
PT Dharma Polimeal Tbk, an automotive component producer listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX), joined the bandwagon.
On Monday, February 3, the company revealed its plan to develop a Battery Energy Storage System plant. Irianto Santoso, President and Director of Dharma Polimeal, said the move is part of the company’s diversified business strategy.
He said BESS will store energy produced by solar panels. The company’s newly established subsidiary, PT Dharma Controlcable Indonesia (DCI), will develop the energy storage system plant.
“The new business aims to maintain the development and growth of the company’s business to be more resilient and sustainable,” said Irianto in a written statement Monday.
So far, several companies are currently developing BESS, such as state electricity company PT PLN, Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC), and PT Nayaka Pratama.
The battery energy storage system can be used to power electric vehicles (EVs), communication equipment, data centres, and power plants.
The company, however, did not disclose the capacity of the battery energy storage system.
So far, Dharma has already provided various battery products and eco-systems to support electric vehicles, called Dharma Connect (DC). Dharma Connect provides DC Battery, DC Power (slow and fast charging stations), DC motor, DC Solar, and DC Cross. (Roffie Kurniawan)
