Jakarta – Price increase of compressed natural gas (CNG) or gas fuel for transportation that was recently enforced by the government has no significant impact on businesses. This was stated by the National Gas Company (PGN) spokesman Krisdyan Widagdo Adhi in a written release, Tuesday (10/5).
The government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has officially raised the selling price of gas fuel (BBG) for the transportation sector by IDR 1,400 (USD 0.096), from the previous IDR 3,100 (USD 0.21) per litre of premium equivalent (LSP) to IDR 4,500 (USD 0.31) per LSP. The selling price is valid from May 1, 2022.
The increase in the price of BBG is based on the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 82/2022 concerning the Selling Price of Gas Fuel used for Transportation. The fuel gas adjusted according to the Ministerial Decree is Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) which is intended for motorised vehicles for road transportation.
“What was decided on the increase in BBG is only for the transportation sector, the amount is not significant because consumption (BBG) for this sector is only 0.14% or around 37,000 mmbtu/month of the overall consumption of PGN’s gas distribution,” said Adhi.
As of March 2022, PGN’s total subscribers have reached 750,660, that comprises 746,307 household customers, 2,446 industrial and commercial customers, and 1,907 small customers. Meanwhile, in the transportation sector, the number of BBG customers reaches 2,000 customers per day, both refuelling through gas fuelling stations (SPBG) and mobile refuelling units (MRU).
“The transportation sector (BBG users) is dominated by buses, public transportation, bajaj (three-wheeled taxis), and taxis,” he explained.
According to Adhi, the policy is useful for maintaining the economy of natural gas business entities in the transportation/SPBG sector. “The price (BBG) is still more competitive than subsidised fuel,” he said. (Hartatik)
