Jakarta – PT Cahaya Anagata Energy (CAE), a strategic collaboration between PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) and Chevron New Energies Holdings Indonesia Ltd, has officially obtained a Geothermal License from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) to work on the Way Ratai Geothermal Working Area (WKP), Lampung. The project will start with an initial investment of USD 28.85 million, according to the company’s written statement on Wednesday, September 25.
Director General of EBTKE, Eniya Listiani Dewi, symbolically handed over the IPB document to PT CAE on September 24, 2024, at the Hall of Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), Jakarta. Various officials and strategic partners of the energy sector attended the event. Issuing IPB through the Online Single Submission (OSS) online system is a step to speed up the bureaucratic process.
“The government gives full support to developing renewable energy, especially geothermal. By shortening the licensing process, we hope that green energy sources can be explored quickly and effectively,” Eniya said.
After obtaining the license, PT CAE plans to start the exploration survey phase to identify geothermal potential in the Way Ratai WKP area. The survey will involve various scientific studies, including geology, geophysics and geochemistry, to ensure the feasibility of future developing a geothermal power plant (PLTP).
PGE President Director Julfi Hadi said that the collaboration between PGE and Chevron on this project demonstrates the synergy between two major energy players in supporting Indonesia’s energy transition.
“The Way Ratai WKP development is part of PGE’s grand strategy to expand our geothermal energy portfolio. We are committed to continue working with strategic partners to ensure the sustainable development of this energy resource,” he said.
After receiving the official license, PT CAE will focus on conducting exploration surveys. This process is considered a crucial step in determining the feasibility of geothermal development in the working area before proceeding to further development.
“We will ensure the process is transparently and involves the local community. We believe that geothermal energy development can bring great benefits to the community and the country,” said President Director of PT CAE, Wahyu Budiarto. (Hartatik)
