MEMR: Dispersed solar power plant installation successfully prevents intermittency

Jakarta – Efforts to overcome intermittency in solar power plants (PLTS) have been enlightened through a dispersed installation strategy implemented by the Indonesian Solar Energy Association (AESI). Technical tests carried out by installing pyranometers, measuring the strength of solar radiation, in 100 different locations on the island of Java prove that installing solar power plants in a dispersed manner will not cause intermittency in the electricity system of PT PLN (Persero).

Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR), Dadan Kusdiana, explained the importance of this strategy. He said that the main factor of intermittency in PLTS is weather conditions. Therefore, installing PLTS in strategic locations in Java is expected to avoid intermittency.

“By thinking of a strategy for placing and installing PLTS in a dispersed manner, we can avoid intermittency disruptions because they can complement each other. Intermittency is not caused by changes in the sun but rather by weather factors such as rain, clouds, and others,” said Kusdiana.

The results of this technical test are the basis for the government’s consideration to accelerate the utilisation of renewable energy as an environmentally friendly source of electricity in Indonesia.

“This program is getting better; the tools are getting more accurate. We are entering a phase where there are no longer significant challenges to utilising NRE in the country. However, there are still questions regarding the priorities and strategies to be taken, especially related to the manufacture of our equipment and components,” he said, highlighting efforts to find the best solution in developing clean energy infrastructure in the country.
