Jakarta – The World Bank appreciates the contribution of many national private companies in contributing to the renewable energy industry sector, the Indonesian Solar Energy Association (AESI) said in a written release, Wednesday (30/3).

The World Bank through the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) proposes comprehensive financial and technical support, to prevent the increase in poverty rates through global collaboration. This support is offered to low- and middle-income countries to reduce poverty and spur growth through sustainable energy solutions.

ESMAP’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for 2022-2024, Fabby Tumiwa, who is also the General Chair of AESI, encourages the private sector to support the development of a solar power plant (PLTS) ecosystem in Indonesia to accelerate access to sustainable energy and decarbonization efforts.

“ESMAP will develop the Sustainable Renewables Risk Mitigation Initiative (SRMI) with a unique, integrated and replicable approach to launch a green economy stimulus through targeted public investment to increase private sector investment on a large scale,” said Tumiwa.

He appreciated the involvement of the national rooftop solar power plant (PLTS) installation service company Utomo SolaRUV and the global scale inverter manufacturer, Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd, which supports the development of the PV mini-grid ecosystem in Indonesia.

The energy sector is the main foundation in achieving the net zero emission (NZE) commitments that have been agreed in several G20 Presidency forums. However, the commitment to realize the acceleration of this energy transition requires large costs.

Private long-term cooperation in national EBT

Utomo SolaRUV and Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd signed a long-term cooperation commitment of 300 megawatts (MW). The signing of the collaboration was carried out to coincide with the Solartech Indonesia 2022 exhibition on March 19, 2022 by the President Director of PT Utomo Atap Surya Indonesia, Darmawan Utomo and Sungrow’s representative, Benny Xiao.

APAC Director Sungrow Power Supply Co, Luis Xu assessed that the appointment of Indonesia’s representatives at the World Bank’s TAG ESMAP alongside world energy figures shows the importance of Indonesia’s position in the world’s energy transition. He hopes that the clean energy leap in Indonesia can be realized.

On the same occasion, Managing Director of Utomo SolaRUV, Anthony Utomo, explained that the company will continue to be committed to supporting the use of renewable energy, especially PLTS, both on building rooftops, floating PV locations, as well as ex-mining sites.

“The government’s efforts to encourage industries in Indonesia to apply the green industry concept have faced several challenges. One of them is the limited number of competent human resources (HR) in implementing the green industry,” explained Anthony.

Therefore, strategic cooperation with Sungrow, he said, is Utomo SolaRUV’s commitment to continue to oversee industries in Indonesia to become an NZE company. In addition to the industrial level, the energy transition through rooftop PV mini-grid also needs to be encouraged at the household level. (Hartatik)
