Jakarta – PT PLN (Persero) collaborates with PT Adhi Karya Tbk (Persero) to utilize coal burning waste or fly ash and bottom ash (FABA) from Asam Asam power plant for the construction of a 150-kilometer road in South Kalimantan Province, according to antaranews.com, Wednesday (9/3).
PLN Kalimantan General Manager of Main Generation and Distribution Unit (UIKL) Daniel Eliawardhana said that PLN gave 140 tons of FABA to Adhi Karya to be used as concrete mixture used in the road construction project.
Asam Asam power plant has a capacity of 4×65 megawatts and located in Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan, in its production process produces 160 tons of FABA daily. In addition to PLN, the FABA produced is also used by the local community and local MSMEs to be processed into paving blocks and bricks.
Eliawardhana said that PLN had ensured that all environmental requirements had been met according to national standards and regulations referring to international best available techniques (BAT) and best environmental practices (BEP).
According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the management of Fly Ash and Bottom Ash (FABA), as non-B3 waste, has been regulated in Government Regulation (PP) Number 22 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management.
Even though it is declared as non-B3 Waste, FABA is still required to meet the technical standards and requirements set out and listed in the environmental document approval. FABA has the opportunity to be used as a construction material to replace pozzolan cement (explanation of article 459, PP 22/2021). (nsh)
