Jakarta — PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN), a gas subholding of Pertamina, has completed the commissioning of the Cirebon–Semarang II (CISEM II) natural gas transmission pipeline, marking a major milestone in Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen national energy infrastructure and improve gas connectivity across Java, the company said on Tuesday, June 9.
The commissioning ceremony, held at Kandang Haur Timur (KHT) in West Java on Saturday, June 6, was conducted jointly by PGN and its subsidiary Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), alongside officials from Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The project forms part of a National Strategic Project aimed at linking gas transmission systems from East Java to West Java.
Spanning 242 kilometres, CISEM II is connected to the existing CISEM I pipeline, which has been operating between Semarang and Batang since 2023. The new infrastructure is expected to enhance the reliability and flexibility of gas distribution across Java, strengthen national energy security, and support industrial and economic growth.
Director General of Oil and Gas at the ESDM Ministry, Laode Sulaeman, said, “The commissioning of CISEM II completes the natural gas pipeline network on the island of Java. This infrastructure strengthens national energy security and enhances the system’s capacity to distribute gas to various regions and user sectors. We would like to thank all parties who have collaborated to ensure that this strategic project has been completed and is operating smoothly.”
Pertagas was officially appointed by the ministry as the operator of CISEM II in April 2026, continuing its role as operator of CISEM I. PGN said the successful commissioning demonstrates the group’s commitment to expanding domestic gas infrastructure and supporting the long-term growth of Indonesia’s gas market.
PGN manages more than 95% of Indonesia’s downstream gas infrastructure and over 90% of the country’s gas trading market, making the company a central player in Indonesia’s energy security and transition efforts. (nsh)
