50 per cent electricity discount automatic January-February 2025, customers do not need to register

Jakarta – PT PLN (Persero) announced that a 50 per cent discount on electricity tariffs will be given automatically to household customers with 2,200 volt-ampere (VA) power and below from January to February 2025. This program is expected to be one of the economic stimuli that directly impacts the community without the hassle of registration.

“All eligible customers will immediately enjoy this tariff discount. With our integrated digital system, this program can run easily and on target,” Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PLN, said in a release on Wednesday, December 18.

PLN ensures that providing this discount has been designed not to burden customers. For postpaid customers, the discount will be applied when paying monthly electricity bills in January and February 2025. Meanwhile, prepaid customers will be discounted when buying electricity tokens in the same period.

“For example, a prepaid customer buys an Rp100,000 electricity token and only needs to pay half of it, which is Rp50,000, to get the same power. This process applies to all purchase channels, whether through the PLN Mobile app, retail, or agents,” Darmawan explained.

The program is designed to reach 81.4 million household customers in Indonesia with a power of 2,200 VA and below. Details include:

– 450 VA: 24.7 million customers

– 900 VA: 38 million customers

– 1,300 VA: 14.1 million customers

– 2,200 VA: 4.6 million customers

“This program covers almost 97 per cent of the total household customers in Indonesia, which amounts to 84 million customers. With this, we ensure that the economic stimulus really touches the wider community,” Darmawan added.

Impact of economic stimulus

According to Darmawan, this discount is not only to ease the burden on the community but also to boost purchasing power and national economic recovery.

“We believe that support like this will mean a lot to the community amid post-pandemic recovery. It’s not just about numbers, but about providing a sense of security and comfort to customers across Indonesia,” he said.

The digitalisation of customer service is the main key to the success of this program. With integrated data, PLN can identify customers who are entitled to receive discounts without the need to involve complicated registration mechanisms.

“We have carried out a digital transformation that allows the distribution of this program to run quickly and efficiently. This also proves that PLN is committed to providing the best service for the community,” Darmawan said.

The 50 per cent electricity discount is expected to be a concrete step by the government and PLN to support the community and the national economy. With the convenience offered, customers can simply wait for their bills or buy electricity tokens as needed without worrying about missing out on the benefits of this program. (Hartatik)
