Jakarta – President Joko Widodo opened the Indonesian International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 in Jakarta on Thursday, September 5, with a strong call to enhance global cooperation to combat the climate crisis and accelerate the international sustainability agenda.
In his opening address, he emphasised Indonesia’s readiness to collaborate for a greener future. He highlighted the nation’s vast green energy potential, including Southeast Asia’s largest Floating Solar Power Plant.
“Indonesia is open to partnering with anyone to maximise the potential for a greener world,” the President stated, underscoring the importance of equitable green energy access for inclusive economic growth. He also stressed that meaningful progress in addressing climate change would remain limited without significant investment from developed nations.
The forum, organised by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), is the second-largest climate action meeting in the Asia-Pacific after the upcoming COP29 in Azerbaijan. With over 11,000 participants from 53 countries, ISF 2024 is a platform to share best practices and strengthen global decarbonization efforts.
Coordinating Minister Luhut Pandjaitan emphasized Indonesia’s critical role in advancing sustainability in the region, referring to its abundant natural resources. He hoped ISF would become “The Davos for Sustainability” in Asia-Pacific.
The two-day forum features 250 speakers and will explore key pillars such as energy transition, biodiversity conservation, and green finance. (nsh)
