PLN Indonesia Power generates more than 10 thousand GWh of clean electricity in 2023

Jakarta – Throughout 2023, PT PLN (Persero) Subholding, PLN Indonesia Power managed to record electricity production from clean energy of 10,175.63 Gigawatt hour (GWh). This figure shows the company’s commitment to developing new renewable energy (EBT) plants as part of efforts to face the challenges of climate change and realise the net zero emissions target by 2060 or sooner.

This net electricity production is mainly contributed by several types of renewable energy plants, namely hydropower, geothermal, bioFAME, and biomass. Of the total production, hydropower was the largest contributor with 5,299.15 GWh.

“The operation of this EBT plant is proof of PLN Indonesia Power’s commitment in responding to the challenges of climate change and supporting the net zero emissions target in 2060,” said PLN Indonesia Power President Director Edwin Nugraha Putra in a statement quoted on Wednesday, July 31.

Overall, PLN Indonesia Power recorded a total electricity production of 84,572 GWh throughout 2023, exceeding the production target of 78,735 GWh. In addition, electricity sales reached 79,989 GWh, also exceeding the company’s target of 74,404 GWh.

Meanwhile, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that PLN Group continues to encourage the optimisation of the generation system through the alignment of the company’s entire business process.

“As the holder of the mandate to provide national electricity, PLN Group is determined to continue to make the best contribution by providing reliable and sustainable electricity for the entire community,” Darmawan said.

The operational performance of generation in PLN Indonesia Power showed a significant increase in 2023. One indicator is the achievement of the Equivalent Forced Outage Rate (EFOR) for the Outer Java Bali PLTU plant which reached 13.44%, better than the target of 14.94%, with an achievement of 110%. This shows that electricity disruptions can be suppressed significantly.

“The realisation of our electricity disturbance suppression far exceeds the target. We can see from the EFOR value of the Java Bali Non-PLTU Plant with a realisation of 0.77% of the target of 0.94%, an achievement of 118%,” explained Edwin.

In addition to the development of EBT, PLN Indonesia Power also continues to make efforts to make efficient use of coal fuel for PLTU. One program that contributed greatly to efforts to reduce emissions and produce clean electricity was the PLTU co-firing program, where the company was able to produce 509.8 GWh of clean electricity, exceeding the company’s target of 252 GWh.

“As a sub-holding Generation Company, PLN Indonesia Power continues to encourage optimization and performance efficiency in the generation sector. We are committed to ensuring that electricity supply reaches the community without interruption,” said Edwin. (Hartatik)
