Jakarta – The Luwuk Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) with a 40 megawatts (MW) capacity in Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi, is now officially operating. This strategic infrastructure not only improves electricity reliability in the region but can also meet the energy needs of more than 30 thousand households and the industrial sector by 30 MW.
“We are very grateful for the presence of the Luwuk PLTMG, which will have a major impact on the people of Banggai. With a more reliable electricity supply, economic growth and community welfare will increase,” said Amirudin Tamoreka, Regent of Banggai, in a statement on Friday, January 10.
PLN, through the Sulawesi Development Unit (UIP) and PLN Enjiniring, completed the construction of this PLTMG with the support of natural gas-fueled technology. PLN’s Director of Project Management and New and Renewable Energy, Wiluyo Kusdwiharto, emphasised this project’s importance in supporting sustainable energy needs.
“The construction of the Luwuk PLTMG is one of our concrete steps to ensure that the people of Central Sulawesi have access to reliable energy. We are committed to continue supporting economic growth in this area with sustainable electricity infrastructure,” said Wiluyo.
In addition to the Luwuk PLTMG, PLN also completed three other supporting projects, namely the 150 kilovolt (kV) substations in Luwuk and Batui, as well as the 150 kV High Voltage Air Line (SUTT) connecting the Batui PLTMG with Luwuk. This infrastructure strengthens the electricity system in Central Sulawesi, which currently has a capacity of 369 MW, with a peak load of 336 MW and a power reserve of 33 MW.
With the operation of the Luwuk MHP, the Luwuk to Toili area will certainly receive a more stable and adequate electricity supply. In addition, the project is expected to encourage the development of the local industrial sector, which is one of the economic drivers in Banggai Regency.
“The Luwuk MHP provides energy and opens up investment opportunities and industrial growth. This is clear evidence that access to quality energy can catalyse regional development,” Amirudin said. (Hartatik)
