INPEX starts new phase of Abadi LNG Project in Masela

Jakarta – The Abadi LNG project in the Masela Block has entered a new phase with the start of early design work for its onshore gas facility, the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) said on Wednesday, April 9.

This step, led by INPEX Masela, marks significant progress in developing one of Indonesia’s key energy projects. The focus now is on choosing the best systems for turning natural gas into liquid form and the machines that will power the facility.

“We see this momentum as a positive signal for the continuation of the Abadi Field project, which is highly anticipated in supporting national energy security,” said SKK Migas Head Djoko Siswanto.

“I hope this initiative can accelerate the progress of Abadi Field to the next stages. The target is to deliver LNG on time, within budget and on schedule,” he said.

Authorities see this as a strong sign that the long-awaited project is progressing and could help improve the country’s energy security.

This stage will also help prepare for the next steps in construction and investment. Officials hope to make a final decision on the project by 2026. They are also pushing for progress in permits and business deals needed to support the project.

Once operational, the Abadi LNG plant is expected to produce large amounts of liquefied gas and supply international markets and local needs. The project will also deliver natural gas through pipelines and produce other energy products.

INPEX Masela leads the project with support from partners Pertamina Hulu Energi and Petronas Masela. The success of this project is seen as essential for Indonesia’s future energy plans. (Hartatik)
