Jakarta—To support the global response to climate change’s impacts, the Indonesian government has allocated USD 30 million to fill the funding gap for programs initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO). President Prabowo Subianto announced during the G20 Summit in Brazil, emphasising Indonesia’s commitment to addressing the increasingly pressing global challenges.
“We are proud to contribute USD30 million to support WHO’s international efforts in dealing with the climate change crisis. This fund is expected to be part of the global solution,” President Prabowo said in a written statement on Thursday, November 21.
According to the President, the fund is focused on closing the funding gap of WHO programs related to climate change and its impact on global health. The President said international collaboration is needed to face this complex challenge.
“Indonesia believes that global solidarity is key in facing the climate crisis. This contribution is clear evidence that we stand with other countries in protecting the environment and the health of the world’s people,” he added.
The funding is expected to support WHO programs that mitigate the impact of climate change on public health, such as controlling diseases triggered by extreme weather changes, providing more resilient health services, and increasing the resilience of the global health system.
“This contribution is not just about money, but also Indonesia’s moral commitment to a better future for the world,” the President said.
In addition to announcing the financial contribution, President Prabowo called on G20 members to strengthen cooperation in facing global challenges, including the climate crisis. He underlined the importance of uniting views for increasingly complex transnational issues. (Hartatik)
