Green Transport Rally encourages sustainable transport in ASEAN

Jakarta – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) together with the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) launched a convoy of environmentally friendly vehicles from Jakarta and ending in Bali. The event, named the Green Transport Rally (GTR), took place between 20 and 24 August 2023.

Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi, said Indonesia is the ASEAN member country with the highest energy consumption, which will continue to increase significantly as its economy and population grow.

“Energy transition efforts in the transportation sector through the use of environmentally friendly fuelled vehicles, will help support the achievement of Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission (NZE) target in 2060 or sooner,” said Priaadi, in a written statement.

The ASEAN GTR is part of the ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) which aims to identify the potential economic and environmental benefits of sustainable passenger car technologies. With the theme “Towards Net Zero Emissions,” the rally illustrates the commitment of ASEAN member states in addressing transport sector challenges to achieve emission reduction targets.

The eight cars that participated in the convoy consisted of two Hyundai Ioniq cars, one Mercedes Eq car, two Wuling Almaz Hybrid cars, one Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, one Toyota Kijang Innova, one Toyota Hilux using B40 fuel, and one Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid. (Hartatik)
