Greater Jakarta air quality worsens, Tourism Ministry sends staff to work from home

Jakarta- With air quality in the Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi (Greater Jakarta) area getting worse by the day, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno will give direct instructions to employees within the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to re-implement work from home (WFH).

“The air quality in Jabodetabek is indeed increasingly concerning, mainly caused by several phenomena, namely transportation, industry, and also weather,” Uno said, in an official statement after a limited meeting on ‘Improving Air Quality in the Jabodetabek Area’ at the Merdeka Palace, Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta.

The ad interim Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) said that the establishment of WFH for Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry employees will be determined in the next one to two weeks with guidelines for four days of WFH and one day of work from office (WFO).

For the long term, Uno said there needs to be an increase in terms of green open space, conversion of industries that do not use environmentally friendly energy. In addition, several tourist destinations including super priority destinations will be directed to utilise electrification. (Hartatik)
