Cisem Phase 2 development strengthens gas supply security in Java

Jakarta – Pertamina’s gas subholding, PT PGN Tbk, integrates natural gas infrastructure by increasing gas absorption from 48 BBTUD to 60-70 BBTUD. Efforts made with the support of the Tambak Rejo Onshore Receiving Facility (ORF) operated by one of PGN’s affiliates, PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), continue strengthening gas supply security in Central Java.

Natural gas from PEP Jambaran Tiung Biru flows through the Gresik-Semarang (Gresem) Pipeline, with pressure and technical distribution managed at ORF Tambak Rejo. Furthermore, this gas flows to the IP Tambak Lorok power plant and industrial and household sectors in Semarang-Demak. Gas utilisation also includes the Batang Integrated Industrial Zone (KIT), Kendal Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Tambak Aji Industrial Zone (KI), and Wijaya Kusuma KI through the optimisation of the Cirebon-Semarang Phase I Pipeline (Cisem I Pipeline).

“This infrastructure integration supports more optimal natural gas services, ready to meet the large needs in the future,” said PGN Director of Infrastructure and Technology Harry Budi Sidharta in an official statement, on Sunday, July 21.

He added that the volume of pipeline gas absorption in Central Java has increased thanks to this integration, replacing the CNG transportation mode used ten years ago. Harry explained that PGN is committed to meeting natural gas needs in new areas and channelling the benefits of domestic gas to domestic users, growing new economic points.

“Infrastructure readiness is very important in supporting the needs of natural gas commercialisation in customers, and PGN always carries out safety aspects in the operation of all natural gas infrastructure assets,” he said.

The development of the Cisem Phase 2 pipeline, which is supported by the state budget, is expected to unify gas supply and demand in East Java and West Java, enabling operating flexibility and maintaining supply security.

“This allows for operating flexibility from east to west and west to east so that supply resilience can be maintained and demand fulfilment in Java can be served,” Harry explained.

PGN continues to strive to maintain its natural gas portfolio in prime condition and develop integrative services to connect gas networks in Java.

“Reliable and well-distributed natural gas supply through pipeline and beyond pipeline infrastructure is our focus. That way, the multiplier effect of natural gas utilisation can improve the economy of the community and the country,” Harry concluded.

This integration also includes one power plant, 31 industrial and commercial, and 29 small customers, with the absorption volume in the industrial sector increasing from 0.5 BBTUD to 3.5 BBTUD. (Hartatik)
