Jakarta – As a commitment to support the government’s program to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, the Greater Jakarta PLN Distribution Unit (UID) has supplied 9,231 Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) units equivalent to 9,231 Megawatt hour (MWh) of new renewable energy (NRE) electricity, officials said Tuesday (17/5).
General Manager of PLN UID Jakarta Raya, Doddy B Pangaribuan said in a written release that customers can purchase PLN REC, both for individuals and corporations, through the following website: https://jasa.pln.co.id/renewable-energy-certificate.
REC is a product of cooperation between PLN and the Clean Energy Investment Accelerator (CEIA), and is proof of ownership of an international standard certificate for the production of electricity generated from renewable energy plants.
“The REC from PLN uses an electronic tracking system from APX TIGRs located in California, United States, to ensure that once the certificate is issued, it cannot be bought or sold to other parties. The entire process has also been verified to meet international standards,” explained Pangaribuan.
Pangaribuan said the data center business is growing rapidly in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta. The increasing use of online-based applications and the development of digital-based businesses, makes Jakarta a prospective place for data center businesses. With fiber optic networks in place and the reliability of electricity supply also gives Jakarta advantage to support data center business growth.
The projection for 2022 is that there will be additional installation of new electricity for data centers with a total power of 300 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) and will continue to grow.
“In terms of power supply, we are ready, because the power supply capacity in Jakarta is around 8,000 MegaWatts. Meanwhile, the highest peak load ever reached was 5,300 Megawatts, meaning that there is still a power reserve of 2,700 Megawatts,” he said.
Pangaribuan added that PLN also provides premium electricity with reliable multi-source supply to support electricity reliability for data centers. The use of the Automatic Change Over (ACO) system complements the reliability of premium power supplies. If the main power source is interrupted, it will be immediately transferred to a backup power source. Moreover, PLN is also ready to provide Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for electricity without flickering. (Hartatik)
