Jakarta – The Indonesian government through the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), Bahlil Lahadalia, has set a new rule that requires every drinking water dispenser to have an energy-saving label. This policy is contained in the Ministerial Decree (Kepmen) of ESDM Number 87.K/ΕΚ.01/ΜΕΜ.Ε/2025 which was signed on 6 March 2025.
This measure aims to improve energy efficiency and reduce national electricity consumption. This regulation applies to domestic manufacturers and importers of energy-using equipment for drinking water dispensers.
“Every drinking water dispenser must have an energy-saving label indicating the level of efficiency of electricity use,” said one of the points in the Decree.
Minimum energy performance standards
The Decree stipulates the energy saving level values that must be complied with, namely: for drinking water heating dispensers, 292 kWh per year; drinking water heating and cooling dispensers, 438 kWh per year; and imported drinking water dispensers must bear the energy-saving label of the country of origin.
In addition, the energy-saving label on the packaging must use one clear contrasting colour. Manufacturers and importers are required to report their products quarterly through an official website provided by the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The report includes information on the brand, type/model, capacity, and number of units produced or imported.
For domestic manufacturers, energy-saving certification can be obtained through a Product Certification Body (LSPro) that has been accredited by the National Accreditation Committee (KAN) and appointed by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Meanwhile, foreign manufacturers are required to appoint an authorised representative business entity domiciled in Indonesia to apply for energy-efficient certification. (Hartatik)
