Jakarta – PT PLN (Persero) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Cooperation Agreement with 28 business partners at PLN Greater Jakarta Distribution Unit (UID Jaya) on Wednesday, July 3, to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
PLN Director of Retail and Commerce Edi Sri Mulyanti said in an official statement that the move is part of PLN’s commitment to strengthen the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia. “We are fully committed to supporting the acceleration of the EV ecosystem in Indonesia through the provision of massive infrastructure,” she said.
Edi added that the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem is accelerating thanks to various government stimuli and incentives, as well as the convenience provided by PLN in new installations, adding power, and special prices for charging at home.
“Through various stimuli and support provided at this time, the growth of electric vehicles is relatively significant. We will continue this positive achievement by ensuring the reliability of the EV ecosystem so that people are increasingly confident about switching from fossil vehicles to EVs,” she said.
In this collaboration, PLN and 28 partners will develop EV infrastructure by providing Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) for two—and four-wheeled vehicles, Public Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Stations (SPBKLU), and Home Charging Services.
Edi emphasised the importance of this strategic step to achieve the target of adding 3,000 SPKLU units and 250 SPBKLU units by 2024. “This collaboration is expected to open up further opportunities to increase EV adoption capabilities in Indonesia,” she added.
The chairman of the Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Association, Budi Setyadi, appreciated PLN’s initiative and stated that this collaboration makes an important contribution to erasing public concerns regarding the use of electric vehicles.
“We are very grateful to PLN for initiating this collaboration and hope that this MoU can be implemented soon, including cooperation that will have a significant impact,” said Budi.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Electric Mobility Ecosystem Association, Dannif Danusaputro, emphasised that EV infrastructure is very important in encouraging the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia.
“This is a very good initiative from PLN, and we, as an association, fully support all of these initiatives. As I said, the future is bright. As long as we collaborate, we will be able to get the results we want,” said Dannif. (Hartatik)
