Semarang – One of the houses in Nanggulan Village, Cawas Subdistrict, Klaten Regency, Central Java, has become a pilot for the energy independence programme. Nanggulan Village Head Surata said that the energy independence programme was initiated by the village. One is installing solar panels on the houses of underprivileged residents who have been relying on their neighbours for electricity.
“The condition of these residents is poor. So the village programmed from the village fund for energy independence,” Surata said on Friday.
According to him, if these poor residents are assisted with PLN electricity connections, they still must consider paying monthly bills even though they are known to be unemployed. Therefore, the houses of these residents are provided with free solar energy sources.
Furthermore, he said, the village energy self-sufficiency programme targets one house of underprivileged and elderly residents. The installation was carried out by the village administration and village volunteers on Sunday, the end of June.
Regarding the capacity of the solar panels installed, he said that the important thing is to be able to switch on the lights from night to morning. It is known that there are seven light units in the residents’ houses whose energy source comes from solar power.
“This year, we are still in the socialisation and education stage. If the programme is approved in the village meeting, the installation of solar panels for the houses of underprivileged residents will be done in stages,” he added.
Surata added that a number of public facilities in Nanggulan have been fitted with solar panels. These include public street lighting, lighting on agricultural roads, and lighting for one mosque. (Hartatik)
