Jakarta – ZONAEBT, a renewable energy startup in Indonesia, has officially launched the sale of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) that are accessible to the public through their digital platform. According to the company, in an official statement on Monday, 23 June, RECs are a new and practical way for the public to contribute to the clean energy transition.

This initiative bridges the participation of communities and businesses in decarbonising the national energy sector, without having to build their own renewable energy installations.

“We want to open the door as wide as possible for anyone who wants to participate in Indonesia’s energy transformation. This REC is an inclusive solution that is legitimate, easily accessible, and digitally verified,” said I Kadek Alamsta Suarjuniarta, CEO of ZONAEBT.

Each REC offered by ZONAEBT represents 1 Megawatt-hour (MWh) of energy generated from renewable sources such as solar, wind, and water. These certificates enable users, including individuals and corporations, to demonstrate tangible support for clean energy generation.

Legitimate and verified mechanism

To ensure the legitimacy and security of transactions, ZONAEBT works closely with the Indonesia Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (ICDX). Additionally, the REC buying and selling process has received official approval from the Ministry of Trade through the Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (BAPPEBTI).

ZONAEBT’s REC purchasing, ownership, and reporting system is conducted entirely online, enabling participation from individuals across various regions. The platform also has a tracking system that shows the energy origin of each REC, ensuring transparency for consumers.

RECs are an essential tool for companies to fulfil Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting demands as well as international market requirements. On the other hand, for the general public, RECs offer an easy and affordable way to demonstrate a commitment to the environment and carbon emission reduction.

In the future, ZONAEBT is also preparing to develop environmental impact analysis features for RECs and integrate them with the national carbon reporting system, as part of efforts to encourage broader and more structured adoption of renewable energy. (Hartatik)
