Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto, on Monday, January 20, inaugurated 37 national strategic electricity projects with a total capacity of 3.2 gigawatts (GW), with 26 power plants and 11 transmission networks and substations spread across 18 provinces.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place at Jatigede Hydroelectric Power Plant, Sumedang, West Java, was virtually connected to various other project locations. In his remarks, the President emphasised that this infrastructure is a real step towards Indonesia’s economic transformation.
“Energy is the foundation for development. This project demonstrates our ability to build large infrastructure and symbolises our aspiration to become an independent and highly competitive nation,” President Prabowo said.
These projects focus on increasing power generation capacity and developing a transmission network of 739.71 circuit kilometres (kms) and substations with a capacity of 1,740 megavolt amperes (MVA). The President emphasised that this success paves the way for Indonesia to reduce dependence on imported energy.
“I am optimistic that we will achieve full energy independence within five years. No more fuel oil imports. We have sufficient resources and the ability to manage this energy transformation well,” the President added.
President Director of PT PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, said these strategic projects were realised thanks to the synergy of the government, SOEs, and various related parties. According to him, the government’s role in accelerating the licensing and land acquisition process is crucial.
“The extraordinary support from the President and his cabinet made it possible to solve major challenges, such as licensing and investment. This is the result of hard work involving all elements of the nation,” Darmawan said.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia added that this project contributes to the energy sector and supports the national target to increase industrial competitiveness. “Energy infrastructure is at the heart of our economic transformation. With this additional capacity, Indonesia is poised to become one of the leading countries in renewable energy,” he said. (Hartatik)
