Yogyakarta Presidential Palace uses green energy

Jakarta – In line with the government’s program, the Yogyakarta Presidential Palace has begun to utilise green energy, officials said Monday (6/6). For the next 24 months or until April 2024, the Yogyakarta Presidential Palace has approved the purchase of a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) according to the electricity usage per month.

“We support the green energy program, according to the government’s goal of Indonesia Net Zero Emission by 2060,” said Head of the Yogyakarta Presidential Palace, Deni Mulyana in a written release.

Meanwhile, General Manager of PLN Central Java and Yogyakarta Main Distribution Unit, Irwansyah Putra said that through REC, PLN supports the use of clean and environmentally friendly energy. REC is one of PLN’s green product innovations to make it easier for customers to get recognition for transparent, accountable, and internationally recognised use of new and renewable energy (NRE), without having to incur investment costs for infrastructure development. One REC unit is equivalent to one MWh (Megawatt hour).

“With the purchase of REC, the Yogyakarta Presidential Palace will also contribute to reducing carbon emissions and encouraging the growth of NRE power plants,” Putra said.

In the Yogyakarta area, there are four customers who have purchased REC, he said. “We are ready to serve the needs of corporate and individual customers who want to contribute to preserving the environment.” (Hartatik)
