Jakarta – The Green Movement UCO program launched by Pertamina Patra Niaga in a short time since it was launched on December 21, 2024, managed to collect 1,162 litres of used cooking oil through six UCOllect Box points spread across several locations.
“The collection of used cooking oil is evidence of our commitment to the circular economy. Household waste such as used cooking oil can be processed into sustainable fuels such as Hydro Treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), said Heppy Wulansari, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, in her statement, Monday, January 13.
She said that UCO’s Green Movement is a strategic step to support the clean energy transition. According to her, the program aims to reduce household waste and supports the transition towards clean and environmentally friendly energy. Pertamina notes that household cooking oil consumption in Indonesia reaches 2.66 million tons per year, creating a huge opportunity to manage used cooking oil as an alternative energy source.
“This program brings Indonesia one step closer to the global trend. Oil and gas companies worldwide have proven that used cooking oil waste management can be an effective solution in accelerating the energy transition while reducing dependence on fossil fuels,” Heppy added.
As a pilot project planned to last for one year, Green Movement UCO is collaborating with Noovoleum as the managing partner of the UCOllect Box. This collection tool is internationally certified and specifically designed to make donating used cooking oil easier.
Pertamina Patra Niaga focuses on waste management and provides incentives for people who contribute. Those who donate used cooking oil will receive an e-wallet balance of Rp6,000 per litre and an additional five MyPertamina points per litre that can be redeemed for various attractive prizes.
“We want to encourage people to participate in this program actively. The incentives provided are one way to show appreciation for their contribution in supporting clean energy,” said Heppy.
Currently, six UCOllect Box points are in operation—one collection point is at the Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Office West Java, in Central Jakarta; two collection points in South Jakarta; one in East Jakarta, one in South Tangerang and one in Dago, Bandung.
“We continue to evaluate these locations to ensure ease of access for the community. In the future, this program will be expanded to other areas throughout Indonesia,” Heppy explained, adding that this program also proves that small steps from households can have a big impact on the environment and the country’s energy future.
