JAKARTA – Three state-owned enterprises (SOEs), collaborates to meet demands for biomass in the co-firing program for steam-powered plants (PLTU), officials said Wednesday (2/3). PT PLN (Persero), PT SangHyang Seri (SHS) and Perum Perhutani agreed to collaborate in utilising renewable energy to accelerate the energy transition.
The collaboration between the three companies was sealed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and was witnessed by Deputy Minister of SOEs Pahala Nugraha Mansury. In a written release, he explained that the synergy of the three SOEs is a form of the government’s commitment as the host of the G20 Summit in accelerating green energy transition and supporting the achievement of the net zero emission target by 2060.
“Especially between PLN and Perhutani, there is a supply agreement, to be utilised by two power plants with a total supply of around 25,000 tons biomass in the early stages,” he explained, adding that within the next 5-7 years the biomass could be available up to 10 million tons.
SHS will biomass pellets from rice husk waste to fuel PLN’s PLTU co-firing program. Perhutani will supply biomass material from the processing of calliandra and gamal plants for co-firing at PLN’s PLTU Rembang and PLTU Pelabuhan Ratu.
“So far, SHS’s rice husks have only become waste, with this collaboration there will be the utilisation of rice husks as co-firing products. In addition to dealing with waste, it can also increase the company’s income,” Mansury said.
Likewise in Perhutani, this collaboration will expand forest management and increase income for the company. Meanwhile, from the PLN side, it can also pocket savings in terms of procurement of raw materials for PLTU. (Hartatik)
